Kasey Wins #6 in 2006 - SCI October 16th Issue
Next stop on the Nextel Cup Schedule is Martinsville Speedway There are only five weeks remaining in the 2006 NASCAR season. That's only five chances for the other nine drivers in the Chase to catch Jeff Burton. By all appearances, it looks as if Jeff using the same philosophy that previous champions have used, consistency. Next week Jeff Burton hopes to apply that same philosophy at Martinsville Speedway; a track where Jeff has not excelled. Expect the Hendrick boys, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, to bolster their championship hopes next week at Martinsville. Both drivers average a 7th place finish at the 1/2 mile track over the course of their career. Also expect the following drivers[..]

NASCAR's Kyle Petty - From Boy to Superstar
Kyle Eugene Petty was born on June 2nd in 1960 into the Petty driving family in Randleman, North Carolina. His father is Richard Petty and he is also the grandson of Lee Petty. To say that racing is in Petty's blood would be an understatement as the young Petty's only dream as a child was to follow closely into the footsteps of his father and grandfather. When he was younger, Petty would be hanging around race tracks, stock cars and knew the drivers in the circuit. It did not come as a big surprise when Petty jumped into retired '78 Dodge Magnum car and won the ARCA Daytona International Speedway in 1979. That car was the same car that his father used during the previous season. Although[..]

NASCAR's Greg Biffle - From Boy to Superstar
Gregory Jack Biffle, originally from Vancouver, Washington was born on December 23rd, 1969. This avid bungee jumper has always been involved with cars and fondly calls his father a "real gearhead". The two Biffle's used to stay up late tinkering on their cars. In fact, the first car that Greg owned was a 1976 Firebird that he and his father bought when he was 15. He built up the first motor on his own car and remembers that it was a 427 big block engine. Biffle used a 1972 Ford Torino when he was 17 on the tracks at Washington. Greg became a familiar name when he raced in the Winter Heat in 1995. His talent caught the eye of former NASCAR champion Benny Parsons who then made Jack Roush[..]
Another Lame Duck in 2008 - Haas CNC Racing Becomes Stewart Haas Racing in 2009
It's official. After weeks of hints and speculation, Tony Stewart will leave Joe Gibbs Racing following the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season. He had another year left on his contract with JGR, but like Casey Mears, NASCAR pacts are made to be broken. The new Toyotas at JGR were rumored to be the main problem, but Stewart, 37, wanted control of his future above all else. He got it when he reached an agreement with Haas CNC Racing to buy a 50-percent stake in the tenderfoot race team. The team name next year will be Stewart Haas Racing. Equipment and technical support will still come from Hendrick Motorsports, and sponsors and other details are forthcoming. Stewart will finish the current[..]
Nascar: How To Decide What Vacation Package Is Best For You?
As a first step you must determine your objective. You basically have two choices: 1) To see a NASCAR race; or 2) To experience all that NASCAR has to offer which is much more than a "race". If you just want to "see a race" then you have a few options. You can book a hotel and race tickets on-line and drive to track; or you can book a NASCAR tour package that includes a hotel room, race tickets and transfers to and from the race track at scheduled times (once per race). There are also bus tours that you can book as well. When you decide to stay in a hotel, no matter what approach you are taking, you have selected the objective of your NASCAR vacation, and[..]
Enjoy The Great American Race With A Pit Stop In Orlando!
While most sporting events save their best for last, NASCAR does things a little differently…instead choosing to run their biggest, richest and most prestigious race as the first race of each new season. The Daytona 500 truly is the Great American Race, featuring 43 of the world’s best stock car drivers taking 200 laps around on the famed 2.5 mile tri-oval at Daytona International Speedway. Now more than 50 years after the inaugural Daytona 500 back on February 22, 1959, the event remains NASCAR’s most focal event. That first 500 mile Daytona race was referred to as the "500-Mile International Sweepstakes" and offered the 59-car field a posted award amount of $67,760. [..]
NASCAR Legend - Ernie Irvin
Like so many other great racecar drivers, Virgil Earnest Irvan, better known as Ernie Irvin, began driving karts when he was just a kid. He won the California Championship at the age of 15. By the time he was 16 he had already moved up to stock cars and won his very first race on asphalt at Stockton 99 Speedway in California. That was just the start for Irvin; he made it a point to race every weekend at Madera and Stockton and was no stranger to victory lane. He even missed his own high school graduation to race at Riverside. In 1982, Irvin headed for the heart of race country-North Carolina. He left California with just $700 in his pocket but made a pit stop in Las Vegas and ended up[..]
Looking Forward to NASCAR Unveiling Hall of Fame in 2010
There was much discussion during the two racing weeks in Charlotte regarding the new NASCAR Hall of Fame that is to open some time in 2010. Topics ranging from the showing off of the new logo, to criteria for induction to having the induction ceremonies on Nextel All Star Challenge weekend spread around Lowe's Motor Speedway all weekend. Ground was recently broken on the new Hall of Fame and representatives of the Hall made their way around the media outlets all weekend spreading the word about the Hall. The City of Charlotte who is responsible for the construction promises a NASCAR Plaza, an office building and an increase in tourism and prestige to Charlotte. I agree with Charlotte[..]
New Look for Chrysler 400
NASCAR fans will find a completely remodeled Las Vegas Motor Speedway when the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 is contested this weekend. "It's a whole different situation (than in past races)," said Wynn Las Vegas bet shop supervisor and auto racing specialist Chris Chavez. The Las Vegas track was completely rebuilt in the offseason, adding increased 20-degree banking to a new surface and moving pit road 275 feet closer to the grandstands. "It (raised banking) will make the race much more interesting and the cars will go a lot faster," Chavez said. Also new is a diamond-shaped, four-building structure called the Neon Garage that will serve multiple purposes, including hosting entertainment[..]
Sylvania 300: The Chase Starts Now
Poor Tony Stewart. Okay, I didn't really mean that. Ha, Tony Stewart. The driver of the #20 Home Depot Chevrolet got some well-deserved medicine last Saturday night, as his 18th-place finish doomed him to 11th place in the Nextel Cup standings, meaning he's on the outside of the Chase for the Championship looking in. This from a guy who told reporters last year that, "if I ever miss the Chase, I should be fired." This also from a guy who spent the summer wrecking his competitors and then telling the media that he wasn't being given enough respect on the track. Yes, Stewart's come a long way from the time he punched a reporter at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But let's just say his[..]

Upcoming Events in the World of NASCAR There are only two more races until the Chase for the Championship gets underway. NASCAR has to be ecstatic with the standings heading into California next week. Currently, the two biggest names in NASCAR, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr, sit in 5th and 9th place respectively. As you recall, both drivers missed the 2005 inaugural Chase for the Championship. Other drivers in the top 10 include previous champions Matt Kenseth (2nd place), Tony Stewart (8th place), and fan favorite Mark Martin (10th). Given this star-studded cast who has everything to lose, next week's Sony HD 500 is building up to be a can't miss race! Of all current drivers with 2[..]
The NASCAR Championships
NASCAR is a competition and has its own set of championship series just as the World Series in Major League Baseball or the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the National Hockey League. Probably the most famous championship series is the NEXTEL Cup Series. Note that the Cup Series will become the Sprint Cup Series because of the merger of the Sprint Corporation and NEXTEL Communications. The history of the NEXTEL Cup Series began as the Strictly Stock Series in 1949, the Grand National Series between 1950 and 1971, and the Winston Cup Series between 1972 and 2003. Innovators of the NEXTEL Cup Series have made it so that drivers can score more points and even get 5 bonus points any time they take[..]
Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach is a Florida getaway that does not put on airs and graces. It is a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself at your own speed. It is also a place where you can enjoy the finest beaches, world-class sports attractions, excellent museums, and first-class restaurants. The beach itself is world famous. As soon as you put on your swimsuit and step on the white sand, you will be in a different world. Everything seems so calm. The beach is super wide, so wide and flat that cars and trucks ride on it. Many years ago cars actually raced on it. The ocean is unbelievably calm and very shallow when you go in and so you do not have to fight the waves. There are 23 miles of beautiful[..]
NASCAR's Sterling Marlin - From Boy to Superstar
Sterling Marlin was born on June 30, 1957 in Columbia, Tennessee. He is married to Paula Marlin and together they have two children, Steadman and Sutherlin. The reason why Marlin's name is familiar is because he is the son of former NASCAR driver, Coo Coo Marlin. His father introduced Marlin to racing at a young age and started it out by helping Coo Coo Marlin in his shop. Once Marlin was 15, he was his father's tire changer and after a year of diligent work and dedication, Coo Coo Marlin made Marlin his father's crew chief. Marlin was an all 'round student back in Tennessee. When he wasn't helping his father on the tracks, he was playing high school basketball and football. During his[..]

What Does NASCAR Stand For?
To the non-fan, NASCAR stands for "Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks"....it's real meaning is "National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing". To corporate America it stands for "Big Business" NASCAR and their premier division "Nextel Cup" is the second most watched sport in America, only the NFL tops it for attendance and television audiences. On any given weekend during the season, more race fans pack race tracks to capacity, than any major sporting event... All-star Game, Superbowl, or PGA Golf Tournament. Kyle Busch, From Pole to Victory
After starting from the pole, Kyle Busch kept his Toyota in the lead for 144 of the 150 laps to win the Camping World RV Service 300 at the Auto Club Speedway. Driving an impressive and perfect race, Busch kept second place finisher Carl Edwards in his mirrors all night. Last week in the Sprint Cup race, Edwards nudged Busch late in the race for the victory. After a post race bumper car demonstration and some sound bites, both Busch and Edwards were sent to the NASCAR trailer for a stern warning. It looks like Busch decided to get even tonight the best way possible. By winning in such a dominate fashion, Busch has shown again that he is the supreme driver for 2008. Busch has won 18[..]
Great Families in NASCAR - The Allisons
The Allisons always won because they send continuous power and torque to the wheels, and their torque converters tend to keep engines at speeds where they perform best. The Allisons chronicle the racing careers, and little else, of brothers Bobby and Donnie (both forced to retire by severe injuries), and Bobby's sons Davey and Clifford (both killed in racing-related accidents). Bobby Allison was a founding member of NASCAR's fabled Alabama Gang, but few know that he actually was born in and raised in Miami Florida. In his senior year of high school, Allison entered his first race in South Florida, but his budding career was cut short by his father, who wanted Bobby to stop racing after[..]
Discover the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour
When most people think of NASCAR, they think of the Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide Series or the Craftsman Truck Series. There is another series out there that many people think is more exciting than any of these. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was established in 1985 and races at some of the most famous short tracks in the northeast. In 2009, The Whelen Modified Tour has a 14 race schedule that includes tracks as short as the ¼ mile Riverhead Raceway in Long Island and as long as the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. This year, the Tour will be going to The Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for the first time. The cars, themselves, bear little[..]

The Go Karting Experience
If you visit an amusement park, more than likely you will see a section designated for go karting. The tracks are usually outdoors, although there are also indoor tracks as well. Karts are usually rented for sessions that last typically between 5-10 minute intervals. The majority of karts designed for public use are run at slow speeds, since many patrons are children. Generally, helmets are not required on these tracks. There are however, tracks made for karts that can reach higher speeds, which require appropriate attire. If you have an interest in motor racing, go karting is a great stepping stone to gain practical behind-the-wheel experience. In fact, young drivers and adults equally[..]
Should Your City Build a NASCAR Style Race Track?
High Tech auto racing tracks bring lots of revenue to a community. First, it takes one heck of a lot of construction work to build such a track and that means jobs and lots of them. The construction could easily take a year or more and with the construction issue hurting right now, well those are much needed and high-paying jobs at a perfect time. Then once built these tracks are used for race driving schools and local racing, time trials and practice. Each time a car runs on the track fees are made and everyone knows racing folks and their fans spend lots of money on this sport and in the cities where these race tracks are. It's a huge bonus for economic development, jobs and it puts[..]

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing which is simply referred to as NASCAR was founded on the 21st of February in the year 1948. Their primary objective is to offer stable managerial as well as sanctioning framework for stock car racing which is evidently lacking on WWII racing. NASCAR created 3 divisions which include Strictly Stock, Modifieds, and Roadsters. Their very first race was held on the 15th of February at the Daytona Beach oval which is notably 6 days before the company was created. What the France family doesn't own in NASCAR, Charlotte billionaire O. Bruton Smith does. That's the perception between business rivals involved in the same industry. Of the 22 tracks NASCAR uses, all but three are owned by either the France's International Speedway Corp., or Smith's Speedway Motorsports Inc. Smith, it seems, wants to tilt the playing field in his direction-a tall order considering his competitors call the shots and own more facilities. With Smith's recent acquisition of Kentucky Speedway and his separation from longtime friend and employee H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, the world of motorsports is wondering what Smith has up his sleeve. Do You Know The History of NASCAR?
NASCAR, the acronym stands for the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. William France originally founded NASCAR in 1948 to organize and promote racing on tracks. Several racetracks existed across the Southeast, each with their own rules and regulations. Hence, the racing sport lacked in direction. Through William France's steadfast vision, he delivered that much badly needed direction and professionalized a sport, in its time, which was considered a hobby. As well, William France founded the International Speedway Corporation, which gave NASCAR the Daytona International Speedway in 1959 and subsequently, the Talladega Superspeedway in 1969. Upon William France's retirement,[..]
History of Auto Racing in Daytona Beach
“Gentlemen start your engines” those four words excite race fans everywhere. We here in Florida are lucky to have several venues where those words are spoken but none more famously crowd pleasing then our own Daytona Speedway. Daytona Speedway has many different kinds of races throughout the year for many different kinds of race fans. Bike Week and Biketoberfest, held in the winter and fall respectively, feature mostly motorcycle races and shows; then in the winter again Speed Week happens and other popular races such as the Rolex 24 hour race and the Daytona 500 are run. Now, NASCAR was born from stock car racing which was born from boot legging in the Appalachians during[..]

Martinsville Speedway opened in 1947 with only 750 seats. Today the track holds over 70,000 race fans and is continually improving the facilities. The track itself is one of the smallest in NASCAR at just over a half mile, but its considered one of the biggest in action with two 800-foot straights and only a 12-degree bank it is said to feel like running on two drag strips with a turn-a-round on each end. The layout of the short track provides drivers plenty of opportunities to push and shove one another giving spectators with plenty of excitement. The Speedway's race calendar includes NASCAR, Nextel Cup Series, Late Model Stocks, Craftsman Truck Series and much more. Tickets for most[..]

There are many types of positions that are available that might be of potential interest to you. The world of Nascar does seem so glamorous and in many ways it is. The first and most obvious answer to the question "what kinds of jobs are there[..]
The NASCAR Vehicle Past and Present
The original concept of a NASCAR race car was that is was supposed to be composed of stock parts you would buy in an auto parts store. In some respects that is true but not totally. The race car is a high performance racing machine designed to withstand high G-forces when banking on turns. Lets look at what makes up this vehicle. The first component most are interested in is the engine of a NASCAR racing vehicle. This engine actually is very close to that which you have in your car (provided you have a big engine) but it is customized so that it can withstand high temperature and torque. All parts in the engine of a are machined to within very tight specifications so that there is a[..]

The Rip-Roaring Return of the Southern 500
Taking away the Southern 500 is one of the worst moves NASCAR officials have made over the last decade, according to true-blue fans of the sport. Moving the race from historic Darlington Raceway - the "Track Too Tough to Tame" - to California has been a public relations disaster for those who grew up with Richard Petty and David Pearson battling down the backstretch, and before that, Junior Johnson taking on Ned Jarrett for Grand National supremacy. Texas Motor Speedway shareholder Francis Ferko is partly to blame. Ferko sued the sanctioning body in 2004, charging NASCAR with anti-trust violations for not allowing a second race at the Fort Worth oval, owned by billionaire O. Bruton[..]
NASCAR Glory Years - Behind Us or Yet to Come?
Some sports analysts and racing fans feel that NASCAR's popularity has peaked and that the sport has been sputtering and on the verge of running out of gas for several years. But the majority of NASCAR fans understand that they have no reason to worry. The sport that Big Bill France, Sr. began is alive and well. Big Bill might not recognize the NASCAR of his grandson, Brian France, but he would understand it. He would understand that at the end of the day, a dollar has to be made. And in today's NASCAR world, there are a lot of dollars to be made. He would also understand that drivers of NASCAR's early years like Curtis Turner, Fireball Roberts, Junior Johnson, Joe Weatherly, Tim Flock,[..]
Fantasy NASCAR Challenge Forecast (3-7 - 3-28)
The fantasy NASCAR season started with racing action from coast to coast, and one name familiar to race fans resurfaced. Jimmie Johnson, the four-time Sprint Cup champion, took the checkered flag in the western portion of the first three races of the season, winning at California and Las Vegas. The next three races on the docket, and those that make up the latest Fantasy NASCAR Challenge, take place at tracks that are decidedly more southern and eastern; but something tells us that Johnson will still do just fine. Meyers Triumphs in Kentucky, Rain Wins Out in Missouri
Jason Meyers claimed redemption for last year's near-miss at Paducah International Raceway by taking pole position by way of victory in the Crane Cams Dash and leading all 30 laps in Friday's Main event to secure his 2nd victory of the season. The 2008 race had seen Meyers take the lead with just a few laps remaining only for a caution to fall before the lap had been completed, pushing him back to 2nd where he ultimately finished. Meyers (Elite Racing Team, KLR Investments KPC) ensured there would be no repeat of last year's result by consistently gapping the field on his way to an impressive victory. "To be able to get our second win of the season is very special to us," said Meyers.[..]

Racing Go Kart Action - Which Sort is Best for You Personally?
If you have ever seen the Indy 500, you have seen open wheel racing, an exciting motor sport where racers achieve speeds faster than 230 miles per hour. Go kart racing is similar to open wheel racing competition, employing a speedy kart. Kart racing is often used like a stepping stone to the faster and more expensive ranks of auto racing where a large number of professional race drivers began. When a large number of individuals imagine go carts, the image that comes to mind is customarily the sluggish karts found at amusement centers. When most individuals visualize karts, the idea that comes to mind is usually the sluggish go karts seen at family fun parks. The best speeds attained at nearly all fun center courses are in the order of 15 miles per hour, but various other[..]
On the Bubble - Talladega
This weekend it is off to the great state of Alabama for the second super speedway race of the 2009 season and the first of two events at Talladega. Known for its high speeds, tight packs and big wrecks, Talladega is a fan favorite and always full of action. While the fans love the organized chaos of pack racing, for many of those on the bubble, one slip up could mean the difference between being locked in the show at Richmond or falling outside the top-35. Thanks to a 21st-place finish last week at the Phoenix International Raceway, Joey Logano and the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team jumped two spots in the owner standings to 33rd. With a thirty-three point cushion over 35th, the rookie is[..]
NASCAR Charities - The Giving Spirit of Racing Men
Most non-racing fans don't associate the rowdy men of NASCAR with the giving spirit that it takes to be involved with charities. Real racing fans know the truth that NASCAR is one of the most giving of all professional sports. The NASCAR Foundation was started in 2006 as a link between the sport and all of the charitable causes supported by its different elements. They support over 30 assorted charities and foundations many of which are run by the drivers, their wives, teams and team owners. Two of the many charities that benefit from its largess are the Victory Junction Gang Camp and Speediatrics. Victory Junction Gang Camp was founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty in memory of their son,[..]
Wall Murals - a Wall in Every Room
I got a call from some friends of mine the other day. Jake and Diane are a married couple with 3 kids, Sarah (16 years old), Jordan (11years old) and Emily (7 years old). They invited me over to take a look at their newly remodeled home. They had been working on this project for about 2 ½ years and finally finished the entire house. They are proud of the work they had accomplished and are now inviting friends and family over to show off their finished product. So today was my turn to drop by and see what kind of decorators they turned out to be and of course compliment them on a job well done. I arrived around 12 noon and rang the doorbell. Diane came to the door and invited me in. Over[..]
He's not gone yet, but Casey Mears is a lame duck driver for the rest of 2008. Hendrick Motorsports knows how to get who it wants and get rid of who it doesn't. Ask Kyle Busch, who was forced out last season with a year left on his contract to make room for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Now Mears, who drives Busch's old car and uses Rowdy's former crew, gets a premature push after one top-five finish, three top-10s, three DNFs and 24th position in the point standings through the season's first 16 races. Busch finished fourth in last year's final standings. Under contract through '09, Mears had been on the hot seat at HMS after a sub-par driving record with one of NASCAR's preeminent race teams.[..]
